WE LOVE SOAP!

One of the most consistent messages from health officials is that washing your hands is the most effective way to get rid of the COVID-19 virus (and other viruses). It is also the simplest way.

Washing with water alone is unlikely to shift the virus from the skin surface. What you need is soap!

Why? Soap contains fat-like compounds similar to those found in the virus coating. When soap comes into contact with that coating, it binds with it, and causes it to fall away from the virus. Once that happens, the virus falls apart. In short, soap dissolves the glue that holds the virus together – but you do have to wash your hands properly, vigorously and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. No matter how smooth and soft your skin might feel, when you are nanoparticle-sized like a virus, your skin is bumpy, uneven, and full of little ridges. Viruses stick to the skin and get lodged in those ridges, which is why shifting them requires active handwashing.

Our wool fat soap was first produced in the early 1930’s by a Bradford chemist who realised that the natural lanolin content of wool fat, which kept the hands of local sheep shearers and wool sorters so exceptionally soft, could also be beneficial to sensitive skins. It is simple and natural, still made to the original formula, and is based on a recipe from the turn of the century, incorporating lanolin from wool fat as the key ingredient.

Made in Yorkshire without plastic, parabens, SLS phthalates or triclosan, using a cold-process method handed down through generations of makers are our ‘naked’ soaps that create no by-products and rely on old-fashioned elbow grease, with every bar poured, cut and packed by hand. The soap is biodegradable too, so it is better for the planet even once you have used it. In addition to selling them naked, we also offer them beautifully wrapped in some of our stunning wrapping papers if you wish to gift them.

Other soaps in stock include triple-milled vegetable-based soap bars, which are at least 97% natural, to cleanse and nourish the skin. These are infused with masculine fragrances which women love too, all made in the Lake District.

All our soaps are vegan and cruelty free.
